CCOP is an intergovernmental organization established in 1966 under the auspices of the United Nations (the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific - UN/ESCAP).

Member states participating in the ceremony include China, Japan, Korea, Philippines, Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Papua New Guinea, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.

Petrovietnam Standing Vice President Nguyen Quoc Thap handed over the authority to manage CCOP Vietnam to Mr. Do Nam Thang, Deputy Director of International Cooperation Department – the Ministry of Natural Resources & Environment

Main objective of CCOP is to collate and set regional data; exchange information on technology transfer; use training institutions; make a good use of geoscience information; exchange legal and administrative management information.

CCOP Vietnam was established in 1989. Since then Vietnam Oil and Gas Corporation (now is Vietnam National Oil and Gas Group) has been assigned to manage activities of the Committee by the Government.

According to preliminary discussion between the parties, Petrovietnam and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment agreed that in the transitional period, Petrovietnam would continue coordinating the activities of CCOP Vietnam until the end of 2015 and MONRE would take the role to manage the activities of CCOP Vietnam as from 1^st January 2016. Petrovietnam also handed over essential documents relating to the organization and operation of CCOP Vietnam to the Ministry of Natural Resources & Environment.

Speaking at the ceremony, Petrovietnam Standing Vice President Nguyen Quoc Thap commited that Petrovietnam would convey experience, help and support MONRE and related agencies to capture and manage the activities of CCOP Vietnam smoothly, efficiently, and keep the prestige of Vietnam to international friends.
