PetroVietnam attends 34th ASEAN Ministers on Energy Meeting (AMEM)

From 21st to 23rd September 2016, the 34th ASEAN Ministers on Energy Meeting (AMEM) and associated meetings were held in Nay Pyi Taw Capital, Myanmar. The associated meetings included: ASEAN +3 Ministers on Energy Meeting (AMEM +3), East Asia Summit Energy Ministers Meeting (EAS EMM) and the Dialogue between the ASEAN Ministers on Energy and International Energy Agency. The working group of the Ministry of Industry and Trade (Vietnam) led by the Deputy Minister Cao Quoc Hung attended the Meeting. The Meeting’s participants
The theme of ASEAN energy cooperation work plan in 2016 is “Towards a greener ASEAN Community with cleaner energy”. At the Meeting, MOIT Deputy Minister Cao Quoc Hung presented some issues being concerned by Vietnam for future energy development including: (i) Enhance ASEAN gas pipeline connectivity and ASEAN electricity network connectivity for strengthening the regional energy security, supporting each other and ensuring the energy supplies to ASEAN countries; (ii) Promote development of new energies and renewable energies in Vietnam and ASEAN towards a green and clean environment for ASEAN; (iii) Continue finishing the legal basis and strengthen scientific and technological applications in encouraging efficient and economical energy use; (iv) The actual situation and the need to continue developing high tech coal – fired power plants, meeting the environmental protection requirements in Vietnam.
The working group led by Member of PVN Board of Directors Phan Ngoc Trung to attend the Meeting
Within the framework of the 34th AMEM Meeting, Mr. Phan Ngoc Trung, Member of PVN Board of Directors together with the Leader of Ministry of Industry and Trade had a meeting and discussions with US – ASEAN Business Council (US – ABC) and Deputy Assistant Secretary of Energy, Mr. Alan K. Yu. It aimed at strengthening the comprehensive cooperation between US and ASEAN countries in general and Vietnam in particular. US businesses recommended some fields for cooperation with Vietnam including mineral and petroleum exploitation of such groups as Rio Tinto, ConocoPhillips and GE. It was the field where the business partners were looking for potential opportunities for development in Vietnam in the coming time.
On the sideline of the event, Mr. Phan Ngoc Trung, Member of PVN Board of Directors together with Leaders of PVEP Overseas, PV Oil and PVD had a meeting with PhD. Tun Naing - Myanmar’s Energy and Electricity Deputy Minister, Mr. U Myo Myint Oo – Managing Director of Myanmar Oil and Gas Enterprise (MOGE) and Mr. Suy Sem – Cambodian Minister of Mines and Energy with regards to supports and assistances for activities of PVEP Overseas, PVD Myanmar and PV Oil in Myanmar and Cambodia.

On the occasion of their business trip in Myanmar, PVN working group also visited and encouraged the staffs of PVEP Overseas’ and PVD’s representative offices who were implementing the projects in Myanmar. The working group required all the units to regularly coordinate and support each other in work as well as to build good relationships with the local governments in the partner country to create favorable conditions for implementation of the projects in Myanmar./ |
